Cream Cheese Danishes

I love a good danish for breakfast, but don't want to go out and spend a dollar or two just to get one or two. Recently I found a recipe online and tried it out. I was so excited that I could make my own danishes at home. The recipe includes an icing, but I was running late the day I made them and did them without the icing and they still tasted great. Though next time I make them I'll allow plenty of time to make the icing as well, because who doesn't like icing? I know I do.

The best part of these danishes is you don't need to make a dough. You use Pillsbury crescent rolls! Open two tubes of Pillsbury crescent rolls very carefully so the dough stays rolled up. Then, slice the dough into pieces that are about 1/4”-12” thick. Place these slices on a cookie sheet and press the center with your thumb to make a dent for the cream cheese filling.

Then, make the cream cheese filling by mixing cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and sour cream.

Then, add a small amount of the filling to each danish in the holes you made (about a tablespoon). If you want your danishes to have fruit as well, add that before the cream cheese filling.  Then bake for 15-20 minutes at 350.

While the danishes are baking, you can make the icing by mixing the powdered sugar, milk, and butter. When the danishes are done, let them cool for 10-15 minutes before icing them. You can use a spoon to drizzle the icing on top, or use a small ziploc bag with the corner cut off to pipe it on top.

Cream Cheese Danishes

Ingredients:
2 cans Pillsbury crescent rolls
8 oz package of cream cheese, at room temperature
½ cup sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice
¾ tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. sour cream
Pie filling or fruit preserves of your choice (optional)
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp. milk
1 Tbsp. softened butter

Steps:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Carefully open crescent rolls to leave the dough in it's cylindrical shape and slice into pieces about 1/4”-1/2” slices. Place the slices on a cookie sheet and press the center with your thumb to make a dent for the filling.
3. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and sour cream. Add a small amount (about a tablespoon) to each danish. If you want fruit on the danish, add some before the cream cheese filling.
4. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Then allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before icing or eating.
5. If icing is desired, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and butter and drizzle on top.
